Jacksonville Florida could be described as an attractive city—not because it is particularly clean—it isn't. The concept that makes one think of using "attractive" to describe it comes from the fact that it is built across the St. Johns River.
Something about a water setting makes us think in picturesque terms. Point in case—we pay more for a home with a view over water. We pay more for a home with a swimming pool, etc.
The focal point of downtown Jacksonville is the "Jacksonville Landing". This is an area on the banks of the river containing restaurants, where you can dine and look out over the water, and a small amphitheater where bands play live music with the river as a backdrop.
The Light Parade is an event held every year on Thanksgiving weekend. Boat owners dress up their boats and festoon them with lights, and parade up and down the river at night. After the parade, a "waterfall" fireworks display is held in the river. Needless to say, the reflections in the water make everything prettier and more festive.
Spectators come from all around, park their chairs in a vacant spot along the banks, and enjoy the festivities free of charge. A great family event.
